Over 1000 Nigerians detained in Thailand, other Asian countries



Close to 1,000 Nigerians are languishing in detention centres in Thailand and other South Asian countries for various offences ranging from peddling of drugs to other illicit businesses.Nigeria’s Ambassador to Thailand, Ahmed Nuhu Bamali, who disclosed this, admonished genuine business people from Nigeria to use proper channel in carrying out their transactions overseas.
He noted that consular issue has become a concern of Nigeria’s embassies abroad. Bamali offered his counsel yesterday in Abuja at a conference on African Gemstones and Jewellery Exhibition and Seminar (AGJES) conveyed by industry’s stakeholders to brainstorm in making them Nigeria’s biggest source of foreign exchange earnings.

The occasion had in attendance, wife of the Vice President, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo as key speaker; grand patron of AGJES, Mrs. Ajoke Murtala-Muhammed and Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, among other stakeholders.
