<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Uche Secondus, has dragged the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed to court for defamation of character.<a name='more'></a> Mohammed had on Friday, last week, mentioned Secondus in the first list of those he claimed looted the nation’s treasury.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He alleged that the national chairman of the main opposition party collected N200m from the former National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki (retd.). Secondus, who denied the allegation, said he was embarrassed by the minister’s claim.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He claimed through a letter from his lawyer, Mr. Emeka Etiaba (SAN ), that he did not collect money and asked the minister to retract his statement. He also asked for the payment of N1.5b as damages and a public apology within 48 hours.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The letter told Mohammed to note that if he failed to meet their demand after 48 hours, ” We shall within 72 hours from today, proceed to a court of competent jurisdiction to ventilate our clients right under the law and shall further seek the protection of the court against you.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Having failed to meet the demand, Secondus on Friday, made good his threat and filed a suit at the High Court, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, claiming among other things that the court awards to him the sum of N1.5b being damages for humiliation, castigation, vilification attack on his person and integrity as a result of the publication.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
According to a statement from the PDP National Chairman’s Media Office and signed by his Spokesperson, Mr. Ike Abonyi, Secondus in the suit with number /PHC/1013/2018, is also claiming that Mohammed’s publication is defamatory.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He is asking the court to direct him to retract the said publication and apologise to him in writing.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Jose Mourinho said he will not hide from the obvious gulf between his side and champions-elect Manchester City ahead of Saturday’s eagerly anticipated derby meeting at the Etihad.<a name='more'></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Victory for Pep Guardiola’s side would seal the Spaniard’s first Premier League title after a season of dominance over their rivals.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It would open up a 19-point gap between the two Manchester clubs and leave City on course to set a new record for the largest ever title-winning margin, currently held by United’s 1999-2000 team, who won the league by 18 points.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Mourinho was uncharacteristically taciturn ahead of the game, refusing to discuss a number of topics, although he did confess that he will not try and talk down City’s obvious superiority in the league table.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“My motivation is to finish second,” he told reporters on Friday. “I still have the motivation of finishing top four, mathematically it is not done. It is a good distance but not done mathematically.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“So that’s the first objective but after that I don’t hide. In practical terms and to continue into next season especially, to finish second, third or fourth is exactly the same — you don’t win the title but qualify for the Champions League group stage.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“But I prefer to finish third to fourth and I prefer second to third. We have been second for many, many months, it is our objective to fight for that and for that we need points.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Mourinho was in a sour mood ahead of the derby and refused even to discuss what he might have learned from Liverpool’s hugely impressive 3-0 victory over the champions-in-waiting in the Champions League this week.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“I’m not a pundit, I’m not going to comment on the game,” he said, also declining to comment on whether, or where, City deserve to be ranked among the all-time best Premier League teams.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“It is not for me to say that, it is for you to say that,” he said. “You see the number of points we have and it is easy to go to the record books and see that with the number of points we have, we would normally be in the fight for the title.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“But we are not because City have a very good number of points that makes it very, very difficult for the team that is second to fight for the title, which we are not in this moment.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Mourinho did offer an interesting exchange when it was pointed out that he had beaten City this season — in the competition to sign striker Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal — and he was asked if that suggested United were more attractive to players than City.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Are we?” replied Mourinho. “That’s your opinion. It’s your opinion…. I don’t know, I have no idea if they were interested (in Sanchez) or not. I’ve no idea.”</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a pastor at Holy Gathering Evangelical Church of God, Papalanto, Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state, Oluwatobiloba Ipense, for allegedly killing his lover, Raliat Sanni, for ritual purposes.<a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The suspect, police claimed, beheaded the victim, severed the two hands and buried the body on his uncompleted church premises.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The corpse of the deceased was buried in one of the rooms close to the church altar.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Sanni was said to be a divorcee, hairdresser and mother of five children.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Thousands of residents of Papalanto, a community bordering Lafarge Cement Company, trooped out on Tuesday when the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, led journalists to the crime scene.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Iliyasu, who supervised the exhumation of the decapitated body of the victim, said the suspect and his accomplice, Daniel Sopeju, who claimed to be a prophet in another white garment church, were arrested on March 26, 2018.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The police boss said the command received a report of a missing person at its divisional headquarters in Ewekoro on Monday, March 26, and swung into action.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said, “The case was reported by one Adebola Saheed that his younger sister, Raliat Sanni, left home since March 21 and had yet to return.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“On the strength of the report, our operatives at the Ewekoro division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, Oluwarotimi Jeje, swung into action and embarked on technical intelligence investigation.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Iliyasu said the suspect was arrested following a discreetanalysis of facts surrounding the disappearance of the victim, as he was the last person that had contact with her.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
According to Iliyasu, the suspect was a pastor in charge of Cherubim & Seraphim, a white garment church, at the Elebute area of Ewekoro.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He added that in the course of interrogation, the pastor confessed to killing the victim and burying her in his church after removing her head and two hands for reasons “only known to him and God.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said Ipense also mentioned Pastor David Sopeju of Iyana Egbado as his accomplice.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Iliyasu described the act as “the height of wickedness” that could be meted out to a fellow human being.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He claimed that the victim was a “secret lover” of the pastor.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The police boss disclosed that forensic investigation into the case had commenced, adding that the suspects would be charged to court.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
While speaking with journalists, Ipense denied the allegation that he killed the victim, saying his accomplice, Sopeju, was responsible for her death.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He claimed that Sopeju led seven members of a cult to his house with the aim of luring him to become a member.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Ipense, who claimed to be teaching Accounting and Commerce at a private secondary school at Arigbajo, said the cult had earlier asked him to submit the names of his church members from which he alleged that they eventually picked Raliat’s name.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said, “It is not true that I killed the woman. It was one Mr. Daniel Sopeju and a woman that wanted to make me join their cult and they said that they were going to collect a ransom.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“So they collected the names of my members and picked the name of Raliat Sanni. Having mentioned her name, they asked me where she was living and I told them that she was living at Wasinmi. They later got her and brought her to my church.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“They used red cloth to cover her face and Mr Sopeju brought out a knife and beheaded the woman. After beheading her, he collected her blood and put it in seven calabashes.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“He later put her head and severed hands in a white calabash.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He further explained that the group told him that the severed head and hands would be shared by members of the ocultic group.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When confronted with these allegations, Sopeju denied it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He, however, admitted that they all belonged to white garment churches’ association in the area.</div>

He stated, "The conflict has been repeating. The lady (Mrs. Onobrakpeya) supposes she is greater than my significant other and dependably jumps on her at whatever point they battle. At the point when this occurrence happened, she and her child assaulted my better half and youngsters. The lady beat up my significant other and pulled her hair, while her child hit my better half with a board.<br />
<br />
"My 10-year-old child, in endeavoring to protect his mom, picked an extremely sharp steel and utilized it to cut the lady and the kid."<br />
<br />
The state police representative, Mr. Andrew Aniamaka, couldn't be gone after remark as of press time.<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The Niger State Police Summon said on Sunday that it had captured a 25-year-old man, Dodo Baraje, for professedly killing his uncle, distinguished as Baraje. <a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Baraje was purportedly trailed and captured by a group of policemen appended to the Bangi Police Division of the state while attempting to get away. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The suspect, who lives in Shirumbu town, Maraga Neighborhood Government Region of the state, was said to have supposedly slaughtered 50-year-old Baraje amid a warmed contention over Dodo's adoration for a nearby blend called 'suck and bite the dust'. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was learnt that the presume shot his uncle for professedly keeping him from taking the drink. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Northern City News accumulated that Dodo lived with his uncle from early stages, previously he got hitched. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The presume told our reporter that he shot his uncle since he beat him up for drinking 'suck and pass on' which the expired said may demolish his life. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He stated, "Out of disturbance, I kept running into the house, picked a firearm and shot him. I never realized that he would kick the bucket, he was just adjusting me with the goal that I will be a superior individual in the general public, somebody my family will be glad for." </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The father of four included, "I don't know how I am will disclose this to my family, particularly to my significant other who cherished my late uncle to such an extent. Indeed, I was affected by liquor; customarily I wouldn't have slaughtered my uncle who dealt with me. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
"I had never fought with him, truly, I don't realize what came over me. May Allah excuse me. I now acknowledged what I have done to my life, I am a trick," Dodo mourned. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The Police Advertising Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, affirmed the occurrence, expressing that agents recouped one single-barrelled firearm from him. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Abubakar said the suspect would soon be summoned in court.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The Peoples Democratic Party, in its reaction, accused the Federal Government of taking over duties of courts in the country.<a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It said the release of the names of those undergoing trial as “confirmed looters” by the Federal Government was an indication that the government had taken over the functions of the judiciary.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, said that the Federal Government, instead of speaking of how President Muhammadu Buhari got money for his election in 2015, had continued to attack the PDP and its leaders.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said, “We are not interested in whatever names they are releasing; the government is taking over the duties of the judiciary.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“This government is the worst we have had in the history of our nation. Nigerians will have to endure it till 2019 and vote it out.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
However, a former FCT minister, Bala, had denied the allegations as he had pleaded not guilty to the six counts preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission when he was arraigned before the High Court in Abuja in May 2017.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When contacted, Oduah disconnected calls made to her telephone line. She also did not reply text and WhatsApp messages sent to her.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But Oduah had, in a statement she issued in February, denied diversion of the fund under her watch as Minister of Aviation.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Calls made to Jang and Nwaboshi rang out. They had yet to reply a text message sent to them as of press time.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In his reaction, Ikime said, “I am in England. I am not in Nigeria. I don’t know about it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Ihejirika’s lawyer, Mr. Nnoruka Udechukwu (SAN), could not be reached on Sunday.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
However, Udechukwu had told our one of our correspondents that the Federal Government was on a witch-hunt.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In his reaction, Fani-Kayode said the Federal Government was resorting to cheap blackmail because it could not secure his conviction in court.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The former minister said, “The names that should be there is that of President Muhammadu Buhari, Yemi Osinbajo and third, Rotimi Amaechi, Babatunde Fashola, Lai Mohammed, Babachir Lawal, Abdulrasheed Maina, Abdulrahman Dambazau and Isa Jafaru.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“All these persons either donated money or received money during the 2015 elections and these were public funds.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Fani-Kayode said he received N800m from the then Director of Finance of the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation, Senator Nenadi Usman.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He, however, argued that the money was not from the government, but from private individuals.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The Federal Government on Sunday released a fresh list containing 23 names of alleged looters.<a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It said the list of alleged looters which it released on Friday was based on verifiable facts, including the amount involved, the date the amount was collected and from where it was taken.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The names released on Friday were the National Chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus, who allegedly collected N200m from the office of the former National Security Adviser.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Secondus had, however, denied the allegation and gave Mohammed 72 hours to retract the statement and also pay him N1.5b as damages.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Others included a former PDP Financial Secretary (N600m).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The rest were a former PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisah Metuh, who is on trial for allegedly collecting N1.4b from NSA office; Dr. Raymond Dokpesi, who is on trial for taking N2.1bn from NSA; and a former SSA to President Jonathan, Dudafa Waripamo-Owei, who is on trial over N830m kept in accounts of four different companies</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The last was former President Jonathan’s Cousin, Robert Azibaola, who was said to have collected $40m from NSA office.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
While releasing a fresh list of alleged looters in Lagos on Sunday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in a statement said the Friday’s list “was strategically released as a teaser.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said, ‘’At the press conference where the list was released, I did say it was a tip of the iceberg… the Federal Government has a large number of alleged looters on its list.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The minister said the PDP’s reaction to the looters’ list has shown that its recent apology was an election-induced act, to deceive unsuspecting Nigerians to vote for the party in the 2019 general elections.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Mohammed said, “The hysterical and panicky reaction from the PDP has shown that the party is not sincere about its choreographed apology. Were it not the case, the party would have followed in the footsteps of one of its leaders, Senator Ibrahim Mantu, who simply owned up to his role in the party’s rigging in the past elections and said he had turned a new leaf.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Mohammed said the Federal Government would neither be intimidated nor blackmailed into silence, adding that it would not rest until all those who looted the public treasury had been brought to justice.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Releasing the fresh list, the minister said based on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s investigation, N126bn, $1.5bn and £5.5m were allegedly embezzled through Sambo Dasuki office as the NSA.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The amounts, it alleged, were apart from the ongoing $2.1bn military equipment scandal.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Mohammed further alleged that a former Petroleum Resources Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke, “in just one of the cases the EFCC is investigating involving her; about N23bn is alleged to have been embezzled. She is also involved in the Strategic Alliance Contracts of the NNPC, where the firms of Jide Omokore and Jide Aluko got oil blocks, but never paid government taxes and royalty. About $3bn was involved. The Federal Government is charging Omokore and Aluko and will use all legal instruments, local and international, to ensure justice.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said the EFCC allegedly recovered N13.9bn and N4.8bn from an ex-army chief, Lt. Gen. Kenneth Minimah (retd.) in cash and property.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Other names on the list are Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika (alleged N4.5bn; N29m recovered by the EFCC); Alex Barde, a former Chief of Defence Staff, accused of stealing N8bn (EFCC recovered almost N4bn in cash and property); Inde Dikko, a former Comptroller General, Customs, accused of taking N40bn (N1.1bn recovered in cash and property).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The Federal Government also named Air Marshal Adesola Amosun, who allegedly got N21.4bn (N2.8bn recovered in cash; 28 property and three vehicles recovered); Senator Bala Abdulkadir, a former FCT Minister, who allegedly collected N5bn (interim forfeiture order on some property allegedly secured); Senator Stella Oduah, who allegedly got N9.8bn (interim forfeiture order on some property secured).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The statement read further, “A former Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu took N1.6bn from the NSA, while Senator Jonah Jang, a former Plateau State Governor got N12.5bn.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Bashir Yuguda, a former Minister of State for Finance got N1.5bn, but $829,800 has been recovered.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The government also named Senator Peter Nwaboshi (N1.5bn), Aliyu Usman, a former Dasuki’s aide at NSA (N512m); Ahmad Idris, a former Dasuki’s Personal Assistant (N1.5bn); Rasheed Ladoja, a former Oyo State governor (N500m); and Tom Ikimi, N300m.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Others are Femi Fani-Kayode (N866m), Hassan Tukur, former PPS to President Jonathan ($1.7m); Nenadi Usman (N1.5bn), Benedicta Iroha (N1.7bn), Aliyu Usman Jawaz, an ally of Dasuki (N882m) and Godknows Igali (N7bn).”</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Singer, Olawale Ashimi, aka Brymo, practically crashed the internet during the week when he released a video for his song, Heya. In the video, the singer appeared in his birthday suit, playing a grand piano under a network of bridges.<a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The singer shed light on why he took that step. “The song is an expression of my environment. I like to paint as much as I can and I think that most of us are bush people, even though we live in cities. The video portrayed a bush man living in the city. If you look around, you wouldn’t see much evidence of civilisation. We did not create most of the things that we use in this country and that’s not good. We need to think, he stated.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Reacting to claims that his nudity in the video was just a publicity stunt to draw attention to the song, Brymo said, “Even if it’s a publicity stunt, is there anything wrong with that? Singers spend a lot of time and energy in the studio. So is there anything absurd in them drawing some attention to their songs?”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
On whether he feels underrated in the country, he said, “No, I am not. People are used to a system and if you want to change them, you have to do it slowly. My albums are doing well and we found that most people, who download my music are in Europe and America. Right now, I have no complaints.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Dismissing claims that he doesn’t perform at top concerts in the industry anymore, Brymo said, “I only perform at top shows. Just this week, I have had two events. I will also be performing today (Sunday) as well. Generally, I get a lot of love in Africa, and as for the people who say they haven’t seen me perform on big stages lately, they are most likely looking in the wrong places. As much as I’m looking at having an international career, Africa will always be my root. <div style="text-align: justify;">
An 11-year-old girl and a woman lost their lives on Saturday after a section of a storeyed building on Abeje Street, Markaz, Agege collapsed.<a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The deceased residents were identified as Sherifat Olalere and 35-year-old Toyin Ogundimu while one Mustapha Salaudeen was injured.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Our correspondent learnt that the incident happened around 10am when many residents were around.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The affected section – makeshift structure at the back of the building – was said to have been distressed for some time.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Officials of the Lagos State Management Agency, and the state fire service and policemen who responded to a distressed call from the area, removed the two corpses and deposited them in a mortuary.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The LASEMA General Manager, Mr Adesina Tiamiyu said other occupants of the building had been evacuated.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He urged occupants of residential buildings in the state to be conscious of cracks on the walls and raise the alarm.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said, “The agency received a distress call via the emergency toll free number at about 10.48am concerning a building at 9 Abeje Street, Markaz, Agege. This ease up the rapid activation of the agency’s Response Team to the scene of the incident</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Investigation carried out by the LASEMA response team at the scene of the incident revealed that a distress storeyed building suffered partial collapse at the backside.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Unfortunately, two persons, a female adult, Toyin Ogundimu 35, and a young girl, Sherifat Olalere, 11, lost their lives to the incident and one male adult, Mustapha Salaudeen, was rescued and treated at the scene by the ambulance crew.”</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Four suicide bombers were on Friday night killed in an attack on the outskirts of Maiduguri, Borno State.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The explosion from the attack left one dead and 13 persons injured apart from the suicide bombers, whose bodies were mangled beyond recognition.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The spokesman for the military counter-insurgency operation in the North-East (Operation Lafiya Dole), Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement confirming the attack, said, “Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole deployed in a checkpoint ahead of Muna Garage on the outskirts of Maiduguri yesterday neutralised four suicide bombers comprising a male and three females.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“The suicide bombers were attempting to infiltrate the Maiduguri metropolis through Muna Zawiya at about 9.30pm but were spotted by vigilant troops, who fired shots hitting one of them, thereby triggering a simultaneous explosion, killing all four bombers.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Also speaking on the attack, the Borno Police Command Public Relations Officer, Edet Okon, in a statement, said, “At about 2149hrs yesterday (Friday), four female suicide bombers infiltrated Muna Zawiya village in the Mafa Local Government Area, on the outskirts of Maiduguri.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“They detonated explosives, killing themselves and one other person (female). Thirteen persons were injured and were taken to a hospital where they are responding to treatment.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But a source in the youth vigilante told our correspondent that seven persons were killed in the explosion.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “Four blasts heard last night were carried out by four female bombers. Three persons died apart from the four bombers, nine others sustained various degrees of injuries, and five sheep were killed during the blasts.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“The injured persons are receiving treatment at the Borno State Specialist Hospital, Maiduguri.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In another development, the military claimed that four Boko Haram members were hacked down in an attack.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“The gallant troops recovered a Toyota Land Cruiser, one AK-47 rifle, 15 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition and one magazine. Troops also recovered 47 jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) from the insurgents.”Nwachukwu said, “The insurgents, who had been routed out of the Sambisa Forest by troops in Operation Deep Punch II, were rummaging for food and logistics when they met their Waterloo.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZhCAgfpSuCV_H6XRLWJn7ke_CQXv0Oy1AFbvmlUogidkIh4EEf5KudYrOYzyX3H3uIMTDbT0gVCgHhqslVFy8L_p9s1UQyBhUBPMKdzMgvmcZHtf_r_k_8eghE7cGpBBQyUlEXgzulPs/s1600/Secondus.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="750" height="192" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZhCAgfpSuCV_H6XRLWJn7ke_CQXv0Oy1AFbvmlUogidkIh4EEf5KudYrOYzyX3H3uIMTDbT0gVCgHhqslVFy8L_p9s1UQyBhUBPMKdzMgvmcZHtf_r_k_8eghE7cGpBBQyUlEXgzulPs/s320/Secondus.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Uche Secondus, has given the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, 48 hours to withdraw his statement against him or face litigation.<a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
According to the spokesperson for the PDP chairman, Mr. Ike Abonyi, who said this in a statement on Saturday, Secondus made the demand in a letter to the minister by his lawyer, Mr. Emeka Etiaba (SAN).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The minister had alleged that the party chairman collected N200m from the Office of the National Security Adviser in 2015.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But in the letter with reference number EESE&C/1/31/03/18 dated March 31, 2018 and addressed to the minister, the party chairman also demanded a retraction, apology and payment of N1.5bn as damages.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The lawyer alleged that the said publication “has damaged the image of Secondus as he has been humiliated, castigated and vilified by many as a result of the falsehood published by the minister.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The letter noted that if Mohammed failed to meet the demands within 48 hours, “we shall within 72 hours from today, proceed to a court of competent jurisdiction to ventilate our client’s right under the law and shall further seek the protection of the court against you.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Also, on Saturday, the PDP alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari had no moral rectitude to fight corruption in the country, describing him as a direct beneficiary of what it called “corruption freebies” deployed by his party leaders to fund his 2015 presidential campaign.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The party noted that the President, who declared that he had no resources to run a presidential campaign in 2015, ought to have known, particularly as a leader, that the billions of naira deployed in his campaigns were proceeds of alleged corrupt activities of known All Progressives Congress governors and leaders.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The party therefore challenged Buhari to make open the sources of funds available to his campaign in the 2003, 2007 and 2011 races, as well as the names of the donors.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The PDP, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, said Buhari and his party leaders had “huge confessions” to make on how they allegedly raked in stolen state resources to prosecute the 2015 elections.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said, “If the Federal Government and the APC are serious about fighting corruption and not just out to persecute PDP members, they should have begun with the probe into the source of the billions of naira used for President Buhari’s 2015 presidential campaigns, particularly in the face of allegations that the fund was looted from treasuries of various APC states.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Can President Buhari, in all honesty, claim ignorance of reports in the open media that a South-South governor (allegedly) looted several billions from his state accounts and diverted the sums into Buhari’s 2015 campaigns?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“We challenge President Buhari to tell Nigerians what he has done regarding the leaked memo showing N9tn ($25bn dollars) corrupt oil contracts at the NNPC as well as the alleged stealing of N1.1tn worth of crude oil, all in a sector under his direct purview as Minister of Petroleum.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“The Presidency should tell Nigerians what has been done to recover the stolen N18bn Internally Displaced Persons intervention fund and the N10bn National Health Insurance Scheme fund alleged to have been stolen from the Treasury Single Account by APC officials and Presidency cabal.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Also, the Chairman, PDP Governors Forum, Ayodele Fayose, in a related development, faulted the “looters’ list” released by the Federal Government which included the name of Secondus.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Fayose, who is the Ekiti State governor, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, wondered why the list did not include the names of those who had been earlier indicted by the Federal Government.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The statement said, “Surprisingly, while the name of the PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus (with N200m) appeared on Lai Mohammed’s clownish “looters’s list”, that of Diezani Alison-Madueke, who they claimed to have traced N47.2bn and $487.5m to, was missing.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Is it that the Federal Government lied against Diezani ab initio, or she has also been baptised into the All Progressives Congress comity of saint looters?”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In its own reaction, the Rivers State Government has said it will not publish the list of those indicted by a panel of inquiry it set up to probe the sale of assets belonging to the state because a White Paper on the matter was already in the public domain.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The Commissioner for Information, Emma Okah, told one of our correspondents that the immediate past governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, had gone to court to challenge the constitution of the judicial panel of inquiry.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said, “If the White Paper has done the job and it is in the public domain, what is new again about the list?”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A former National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, also alleged that there was a secret plan by the Federal Government to convict him for corruption.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Metuh, who is on trial before a Federal High Court in Abuja for alleged corruption, was named by Mohammed to be among six members of the PDP who allegedly looted the treasury in 2015.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Metuh, in a statement titled ‘My reply to the media trial’ on Saturday, said, “By this publication, the Federal Government has breached our constitution by seeking to burden me with two criminal trials on the same charge, one before Justice Okon Abang and the other before the media.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“The major crux of the prosecutions argument is that I ought to have known that the money was part of an alleged and yet-to-be proven unlawful activity of Col Sambo Dasuki(retd.), a former NSA to President Jonathan.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“In view of the weakness of the case against me, the APC led Federal Government resorted to all kinds of dirty tactics to dehumanise and intimidate me.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“I have been reliably informed that the Federal Government has ordered a conviction at all cost to ensure that the PDP is tainted before the elections. The government ‘s determination to achieve this objective is clearly highlighted by the refusal to allow me to attend to my deteriorating health notwithstanding several expert medical opinions on the matter.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Metuh said that, by going to the media to name him a looter and without cross-checking the definition and dictionary meaning of the word, the Federal Government has not only given “ a body language but has issued a direct intimidation and threat to the judiciary to get a compulsory conviction.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
With this, he said there was no way the Federal Government would allow justice to be done in his case.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
WhatsApp on Friday rolled out a new feature in a Beta update that will soon enable iOS, Android and Windows Phone users migrate their data to a new number without much hassle.<a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The new “Change Number” feature update is currently available in the 2.18.97 Android beta update on Google Play Store. It will come in iOS and Windows devices later, Economic Times of India reported.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“It adds many improvements to the old change number feature. You will be able to choose specific contacts to notify, and the chat history will be moved in the new chat on the recipients’ phone. This deletes the problem of duplicated chats,” tweeted WABetaInfo, a fan website that tracks upcoming WhatsApp features.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The user can now choose if he wants to also notify some or all contacts. “You can also choose to notify contacts who you have a chat with,” the report said.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The user will have to select the “Change Number” option in WhatsApp Settings and then Account.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After inserting the required old and new phone numbers, WhatsApp will ask which contacts have to be notified about your new number.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After the migration, in the recipient’s phone, all shared messages in the old chat will be transferred in the new one and in the chat will appear a new bubble, indicating that the user has a new number, WABetaInfo said.</div>

This is apparently not a good time for Nigerian comedian, Afametuna Klint Igwemma, popularly known as Klint da drunk. A lady, identified as Sandra Novo-Jacob, recently went on social media to call out the comedian for allegedly abandoning her and her baby girl.<a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
She wrote on Facebook during the week, “Klint da drunk is the father of my child. I cannot hide it anymore because I am tired of caring for this child alone. I need him to play the role of a father to (our) child, Annora Uchechi Klint Igwemba.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
To show proof of the communication between her and the comedian, Jacob posted screenshots of her chats with Klint, bank credit alerts, and a photo of the child’s birth certificate bearing Klint’s full name.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The 26-year-old woman explained to Sunday Scoop, “We were friends on social media for some years before we eventually met in Benin in 2013. That’s all I can say about that. When I told him about the pregnancy, he asked me to get rid of it. But I couldn’t do that as I didn’t want to abort the innocent baby.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Lamenting about how hard it has been for her to solely take care of the baby, she said, “The last time I saw him was in October 2017. Since I shared the story on Facebook, he has not reached out to me. He has not even seen the baby. I chat with him on WhatsApp, but he replies only whenever he feels like.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Meanwhile, Klint, who is married with three kids, has not made any statement about the issue. All attempts to get Klint’s reaction to the story were abortive.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday met with British supermodel, Naomi Campbell, as he toured the Eko Atlantic City on Friday.<a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The supermodel was in Lagos for the Arise Fashion Week 2018, and many Nigerians were surprised to see her with the President during his tour of the new city under construction.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The British model had earlier tweeted that she was in Nigeria on the request of the Nigerian government but deleted the post shortly after.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
She tweeted, “Was a pleasure to be invited by his Excellency, the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, to the private launch of Eko Atlantic @NGRPresident @MBuhari.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After deleting the post, she replaced it with, “Was a pleasure to meet His Excellency the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, to the launch of Eko Atlantic. Here for Arise Fashion Week.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
However, before the first post was deleted, Nigerians had already seen it and bombarded the model with questions, with some asking why she deleted her initial post.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A Twitter user simply identified as, Olawoyin4u, posted a screenshot of her first post and asked why the supermodel deleted the tweet. He posted on his twitter handle, “Nigerians want to know why you deleted the post below?”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The Presidency also denied reports that President Buhari had invited the British actor, singer and model for the tour of the Eko Atlantic City. It claimed that the President met Campbell at Eko Atlantic City and that she requested to take some pictures with Buhari.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A tweet by the Personal Assistant to the President on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, said, “For the sake of clarity, President MBuhari didn’t invite Ms. Naomi Campbell to any event during his 2-day visit to Lagos State.”</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A yet-to-be identified woman has reportedly been arrested by the police in Edo State for allegedly inflicting grievous injury on her granddaughter over a meal of noodles.<a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The incident was said to have occurred in Benin, the state capital.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Johnson Kokumo, told our correspondent on Friday that he was not yet aware of the case.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“I have not confirmed (the incident),” Kokumo said.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was learnt that the suspect had claimed that the little girl ate the food without her permission.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The woman was said to have allegedly placed the hands of the little girl on a lit gas stove to serve as a punishment, leaving her fingers badly burnt.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was, however, learnt that the girl was later rescued and taken to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital for treatment, following the intervention of the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Photos of the victim, which went viral on the Internet, drew condemnation from members of the public.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When contacted, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Magdalene Ohenhen, told our correspondent to call back next Tuesday.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Ohenhen said, “Today is a public holiday. I am in the village burying my brother. Call on Tuesday.”</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The Coalition for Nigeria Movement led by former President Olusegun Obasanjo has asked Nigerians to be wary of President Muhammadu Buhari’s government as it has corrupted security agencies ahead of the 2019 general elections.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It said the statement by a former Minister of Defence, Lt. Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (retd.), that the military was colluding with unscrupulous individuals should not be dismissed.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The spokesman for the CNM, Mr. Akin Osuntokun, said this while responding to allegations by heads of security agencies that there was a plot by some groups to disrupt the 2019 general elections.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The Directors-General of the Department of State Services, Mr. Lawal Daura; and National Intelligence Agency, Mr. Ahmed Rufa’I as well as the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin, had raised the alarm over the plans by some groups to disrupt the processes leading to the 2019 elections.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The evil plan, according to them, was for the groups to create a stalemate during the elections.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
However, Osuntokun told one of our correspondents that the security heads were acting out the script of the All Progressives Congress.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said, “It all sounds funny to me. I don’t know any group that meets that description but why would anyone want to disrupt the 2019 elections? The only people that would want to disrupt the elections are the APC which has sensed its imminent defeat.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“If what Gen. Danjuma said is true whereby our protectors have become murderers, then it means they are the ones that should be feared. They are the ones that should be suspected.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“If you can extrapolate from what Gen. Danjuma said, that means Nigerians are at the mercy of the government or the army that is colluding. The people we should fear are (those in ) the government.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Osuntokun said it was unfortunate that the heads of security agencies were serving a ‘conspiratorial parochial agenda’ as they were protecting the President’s ethnic base.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He added, “Where is the need to reserve the command of the Nigerian military and security services exclusively for the ethno-religious base of the President if it is not to serve a conspiratorial parochial agenda?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“The only group that fits this description of a fictitious fifth columnist agenda is the government itself.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Security services shouldn’t cause panic –NCP</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The National Conscience Party asked Nigeria’s security services to wake up to their responsibilities and should not try to cause panic to achieve pre-arranged objectives.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The National Chairman of the party, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, said this in a telephone interview with Saturday PUNCH (our source), in Abuja, on Friday.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He was reacting to the news that the nation’s security chiefs had raised the alarm over threats by unnamed groups to scuttle the 2019 general elections.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Tanko said, “That is very unfortunate. I wouldn’t want to say unprofessional; I only hope they are not raising a false alarm as part of a gimmick to short-change Nigerians.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Security people do a lot of things; I don’t think it is fair for them to send panic or create fear among Nigerians. They are in the government; they are trained and paid to protect us.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“They have the capacity to deal with threats if they know these individuals or groups and they have evidence. What is stopping them from apprehending them?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“It is completely unnecessary for our security officials to try to create a situation of panic. As ordinary citizens, we don’t have the information and capacity they have. If they are now throwing it back to us, what do they expect us to do?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Who do we move to for protection? It is their duty to ensure that the election is free and fair and not to send fear into the hearts of Nigerians.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Speaking in a similar vein, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Alhaji Abdukadir Abdulsalam, urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and ensure that nothing untoward was done by any individual or group to scuttle the 2019 elections.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Abdulsalam who also spoke in a telephone interview noted that Nigerians owed it a duty to themselves and the nation to remain vigilant while the institutions of the state live up to their responsibility.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“We expect our security officials to do their jobs by ensuring a peaceful atmosphere before, during and after elections.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“We should not become a nation that each time an election is coming we begin to raise security concerns. It does not portray us as a serious country.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
FG must act fast –CACOL, CD</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Two civil societies, the Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership and the Campaign for Democracy have said that the Federal Government must not treat the alarm raised by the security chiefs on the 2019 elections with kid gloves.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The civil societies said the government must reshuffle the military and other security agencies to bring in fresh and efficient hands, devoid of political and economic interests.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The CACOL Director, Debo Adeniran, said, “That alarm by security chiefs is a manifestation of the ominous sign of distrust between the serving and retired military officers.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“These are ominous times and the government must not fold its arms. It is a warning that should be taken seriously and everyone who is investigated to have such plans against the 2019 elections must be arrested and prosecuted, no matter whose ox is gored.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“They should be rounded up and made to sign an undertaking for the 2019 elections.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Meanwhile, the CD President, Usman Abdul, said, “We will not condone any act of sabotaging our democracy. We call on the President to allow those security chiefs who are due for retirement to go. The President must bring in those who are capable of steering the course of the 2019 elections.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“Given these security alerts, the government must not let the 2019 elections go awry. There must be an action immediately and one of such actions is the removal of whoever is deemed inefficient.”</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A-list celebrities, Tuface and Kate Henshaw have expressed displeasure at the seeming inability of the Buhari-led administration to secure lives of Nigerians against the destructive activities of Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen. They also frowned upon the abduction of Dapchi schoolgirls in Yobe State recently.</div>
<a name='more'></a><div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Benue State which is one of the flashpoints of the herdsmen/farmers clashes is very dear to the heart of Tuface, the African Queen creator. He told <i>Correspondents</i> that from all indications, the government is not doing much about the situation except to always, ‘condemn the killings.’</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“The Federal Government is not doing anything at all, nothing has been done and as we speak, the herdsmen can attack anytime anyday. They would move on then the Federal Government would condemn the killing; that is all they do, to condemn the killing but nothing is being done. I feel terrible when I read about the senseless killings that daily take place in Benue. It is not about my state alone. It happens in other states as well and I sympathise with Nigerians. These people are just being lawless and the law enforcement agencies are doing nothing about it. As far as I can see, I have not seen any serious effort to address this issue. Nigerians are tired and angry but because we are peace-loving, that is why Nigeria has not exploded and that is what these men are taking for granted. They know we would not do anything. Their case is like that of a man that keeps stepping on the tail of a tiger; one day he would see the trouble he is looking for.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He told news men that he agrees with his state governor, Samuel Ortom, who has urged his people to defend themselves because they cannot continue to sit down while the herdsmen continue to plunge families into sorrow. “I agree that the people should arm themselves against future attacks because if your people are being killed and the government is not doing anything, you would not sit in one place like a sitting duck. You would have to arm yourself so that you would not fall victim to the attacks again. It is the only logical thing to do,” the singer said.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He further condemned the government for suggesting the idea of amnesty for the members of the Boko Haram. To him, that is an admission of defeat by the government. “There is something that I do not understand, there are so many Nigerians who have graduated from school and they are finding it difficult to make a living; they are trying to make a positive impact but the government is not helping but it is those who kill and maim their fellow men that the government wants to grant amnesty, it just does not make sense. It is a very shameful situation and it means that the government has accepted defeat. They are sending a clear message that they cannot fish out the culprits. It just shows that they have accepted defeat. There is no other logical explanation,” he said.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Tuface also opened up on why he opted out of the planned mass protest which he initiated in February last year. The singer said that he did not back down because he was threatened by anyone. He said he did not want lives to be lost as a result of his action.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said, “To be sincere, I was not threatened by anybody. When you want to embark on a mass protest, you have to do your due investigation as well as keep your ears to the ground. There were so many things that were already taking place few days to the day of the mass protest. We learnt that some people wanted to wreak havoc and change the course of what we wanted to achieve. It would have changed the message we wanted to pass across and I could not let that happen. That is why I decided that we leave the physical protest but it does not mean that we would stop challenging government and demanding accountability from them. It does not mean that we would stop talking if we see that something bad is happening. I always say, ‘one love’ and ‘peace,’ I would not want my name to be associated with any ugly outcome from such mass movement. I would not have been able to sleep. I respect all those that eventually came out and I was happy the protest was peaceful.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
For actress Kate Henshaw who maintained the same stance with her colleague, she told our correspondents that it was puzzling that some set of people would take their cattle to another man’s land to graze only for them to kill the owner of the farm. She agreed that since the government had refused to do anything, the citizens should find a way to defend themselves.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
She said, “The people would have to defend themselves. I know it is crazy but we should be able to defend ourselves, our children and family. Whenever I read what is happening in Nigeria, it breaks my heart. I grew up seeing cattle where they had to be not that you had to create a special place for them. You can build ranches in the north where they are predominant. I don’t see why you need to invade people’s farms and then you kill the owners just because you want your cattle to eat. Since when have animals been more important than human beings? That is a question we need to ask ourselves.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
She added that it was a bad idea for the government to even consider granting amnesty to Boko Haram members.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
She also gave her two cents on the Christian Dapchi schoolgirl who is still in the captivity of the terror sect, “I don’t think the government should grant amnesty to members of Boko Haram. Have they paid penance for the wrongs they have done? Are they repentant? They have not even been punished for what they have done. When you do the crime, you do the time. They must be punished for what they have done first, then we can talk about amnesty.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“It is very sad that other kidnapped Dapchi children have been released except one. The government should have pulled out all the stops to get that one last girl out to make sure that their release was wholesome because you cannot leave anyone behind. Every child, every citizen of this country deserves to move around freely without fear. If one person is still being held, then your job is not complete, you have not done anything. Also, why is it that it is a Christian girl that was left behind? I would not want to go into the religious aspect because I don’t want to go into something that would be divisive. She is a young girl and a human being,” Henshaw said.</div>

The Kano State Hisbah Board, on Thursday, said it arrested 98 beggars in the Kano metropolis for allegedly contravening the law on street begging.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Officer in charge of the board, Dahiru Nuhu, who made the disclosure in Kano, disclosed that the beggars were arrested at about 12.15pm in different parts of the city, including Bompai, Lodge Road and Danshaba motor ark.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
According to Nuhu, 68 of those arrested were street urchins, popularly called almajiri, aged between nine and 17 years.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Furthermore, he disclosed that majority of the beggars were from Bauchi, Katsina, Gombe and Yobe states.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
However, he explained that those who were not from Kano would be sent back to their respective states of origin, urging them to find something profitable to do.<br />

“The PDP has challenged us to name the looters under their watch. They said they did not loot the treasury. Well, I am sure they know that the treasury was looted dry under their watch. Yet they decided to grandstand. This shows the hollowness of their apology,” Mohammed said as he released the names.</div>

<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
Public commentators and thousands of Nigerians invaded the social media space on Thursday, condemning the roles allegedly played by some presidential aides in the controversial award for President Muhammadu Buhari by the Martin Luther King center a few days ago.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
Pictures of the delegation from the centre, The King Center, presenting the award on behalf of the family of legendary American civil rights activist to Buhari at the Presidential villa, found their way into the media space hours after the visit.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
Obviously uncomfortable with the development, The King Center tweeted on Wednesday, dissociating itself from the award.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
The statement, released via @TheKingCenter, read, “The award given to President Buhari of Nigeria was not given by The King Center, at the request of The King Center or by the children of #MLK and CorettaScottKing.”</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
The development ignited a series of unfavourable comments from members of the public, especially when an online platform, LeadersNG, published on Thursday that the Nigerian government might have paid up to $3m to procure the ‘fake award’ for the President.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
Following the outrage, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, hurriedly issued a statement on Thursday to defend the award.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
She explained that the award was in appreciation of the President’s fight against corruption, noting that the visit of the MLK family members to Nigeria was not sponsored by the Federal Government.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
Dabiri-Erewa in the statement by her media aide, Abdurrahman Balogun, dismissed insinuations that the government paid money for the award, stressing that nothing could be further from the truth.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
“It must be categorically stated here that the trip was totally privately funded and not one kobo was spent by the Nigerian government,” she said.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
The Presidential aide also clarified that the commemorative plaque given to Buhari was presented on behalf of the Martin Luther King family and not the TK Center as being speculated.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
The statement read in part, “Our attention has been drawn to obviously fake online news reports on the visit of some members of the MLK family to Nigeria.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
“The members, led by the Matriarch of MLK, Naomi Barbara King, were in Nigeria as part of the activities initiated to celebrate a low- key Black History Month in Nigeria as part of deepening partnership between Africa and its diaspora.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
“As part of the activities, they visited President Buhari and gave him a commemorative plaque for his fight against corruption and what they termed from the “Africania Diaspora” a term for Africans in diaspora for which the oldest of them all, Naomi Barbara King, was selected to present on behalf of the family (Not TK Center) as a sign of appreciation to the President.”</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
The statement further stated that the Americans enjoyed their visit and they decided to extend their stay by two days, noting that the political endorsement of Buhari by a member of the MLK family was done in his personal capacity.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
“As a non-political group, he was asked to refute the statement, which he refused to, insisting that it was his personal opinion, and not that of the family nor that of the centre, of which he has been a board member and the Chief Operating Officer for over five years.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
“This may have led to some arguments among them, which they have said they will resolve when they get back to the United States, which apparently led to the tweet being circulated,” it said.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
But the LeadersNG, in its report, alleged that the award was facilitated by Dabiri-Erewa, through a Ghanaian self-acclaimed foreign diplomat, Dr. Erieka Bennett.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
According to the LeadersNG, a quick fact-check on Erieka Bennet revealed that she runs a non-governmental organisation, called, Diaspora African Forum, based in Accra, Ghana, and that she used her influence to facilitate foreign awards for unsuspecting African leaders.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
The online newspaper further alleged that Bennett was contracted by Dabiri-Erewa to bring Martin Luther King Jnr’s family to Nigeria to present an award to Buhari.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
It added that Bennet contacted someone in King’s family, a distant relative of Martin Luther King called Dr. Naomi Barbara, “after The King Center declined earlier request by Bennett to influence an award for a certain African leader.”</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
In his reaction on his facebook page, An Associate Professor of Journalism and Emerging Media in the School of Communication & Media, Kennesaw State University in the USA, Farooq Kperogi, condemned the action which Buhari’s aides played in the saga.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
Kperogi wrote, “Nigerian scam artists, led by Abike Dabiri, got some Black American hustlers from Atlanta to pose as close relatives of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jnr. and presented a fraudulent “Black History Award” to Buhari.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
“First, Coretta King, Martin Luther King’s wife, died on January 30, 2006. I know Buhari gives appointments to dead people, but in America dead people don’t give awards. Second, Black History is celebrated in February, not March, in America and Canada.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
“The extent the Buhari government is prepared to go to court of embarrassment and ridicule Nigeria in its bid to conceal its crying incompetence is simply astounding.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
Also, one Aminu Farooq, said, “This fraudulent award didn’t come to me as a surprise. Nigerian leaders are always vulnerable when it comes to these types of awards. My father had been chief executive officer in a Federal Government establishment in Nigeria.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
“He said if he had paid attention to awards, he would have received hundreds of them during the period he occupied office. There is a growing business industry in Nigeria that can be called the award industry. Buhari’s case is only different from the ones I know about because his own award is ‘international.’ It is very sickening and sad.”</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
Another Facebook user, Isyaka Laminu Badamasi, said, “When a few nights ago my wife and I watched Channels TV News at 10 and saw the presentation of an award called the First Black History Month National Black Excellence and Exceptional Leadership Award by a certain falsely described ‘matriarch’ of the King family, I smelt a rat. I told her this award is very strange though I couldn’t put my finger on why.”</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
Also, Musa Idris said, “The long and short of it is that the award is a big fraud, as fraudulent as Buhari’s integrity! My surprise is that it is Abike Dabiri whom we used to know and love in NTA of old that organised this heist and foisted it on the unaware President-in-a-trance.”</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
In 2016, former President Goodluck Jonathan became the first African leader to be given the Martin Luther King human rights award.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
However, the Peoples Democratic Party described the saga as a national disgrace and embarrassment.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
The PDP, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, on Thursday said the lie by Buhari’s handlers smacked of what it described as a desperation by the presidency and the All Progressives Congress to procure international endorsement,ahead of the 2019 elections.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
Ologbondiyan said the embarrassing act had made the nation a laughing stock before the international community.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
He said the nation was jolted when the centre distanced itself from the award and noted that, “the award given to President Buhari of Nigeria was not given by The King Centre, at the request of The King Centre or by the children of Martin Luther King jnr.”</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
He said, “It is now clear that this sinking, incompetent and deceptive APC administration, in their desperation, can fabricate and stage-manage anything, including name-dropping of international figures and agencies, in their desperate attempt to delude Nigerians again, now that the 2019 general election is fast approaching.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
“Nigerians have discovered that having failed to gain any endorsement from reputable international figures such as Bill Gates, the APC and the Presidency have now cheapened the nation by resorting to this despicable act of name-dropping of world-renowned human right activist, Dr. Martin Luther King jnr., further dragging down our once sterling image before the comity of nations.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
“The fact remains that not many Nigerians believed in the authenticity of the award in the first place, as the Buhari-led administration, by its undemocratic and anti-people proclivities, including records of violations of rights of citizens, is not deserving of any form of recognition by any human rights group, let alone the family of the world-acclaimed Martin Luther King Jnr.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
“Today, the PDP has been vindicated in its stand that the APC government is not only hypocritical but overtly deceptive and must not be trusted.”</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
Ologbondiyan recalled that the PDP had issued a statement, earlier this year, cautioning Nigerians and the international community to be wary of information and claims coming from the APC and the presidency, particularly on endorsements and performance indices.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
While he urged the Presidency to shed its alleged proclivity for lies, he also demanded the immediate arrest, investigation and prosecution of all the Presidency officials involved in this messy scandal and crime against our nation.</div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: start;">
“Moreover, the Presidency and the APC should save the nation from further embarrassment by jettisoning other planned endorsement stunts and fabricated performance indices, as Nigerians are already rallying with the repositioned and rebranded PDP in their collective quest to end the misrule of the APC and restore a sincere, purposeful and people-oriented government come 2019,” he added.</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
A self-acclaimed well-travelled Nigerian woman, Monica Ambrose who is eyeing the seat of President Muhammadu Buhari ahead of 2019 has goofed in her maiden campaign speech.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Monica Ambrose, a Holland-based Nigerian political aspirant has massively gotten the attention of Nigerians on the wrong note.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Monica, an assumed native of Edo State who seems to be campaigning for next year’s presidential election says she is going to bring back ‘terrorism’ to Nigeria in an online video she shared.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The young woman who claims to have a solution to the problems of Nigeria with a promise to transform the country to the Western world ended up adding to the comic relief on the ground.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It would be recalled that Nigeria is dealing with the challenges of Fulani herdsmen, armed militias and Boko Haram.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Excerpts from her short speech read:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>“I have been civilized. They say travelling is part of education. The degree that I have gathered in my travelling. <div style="text-align: justify;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
- Mantu said he helped to rig elections by providing financial inducements to officials involved in the conduct of the polls.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A former deputy president of the Nigerian Senate, Ibrahim Mantu, has revealed how he helped his party to win elections in the past. Channels TV reports that Senator Mantu, who was a senator on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ‘confessed the truth’ during an interview on Hard Copy, a Channels Television programme that airs on Friday, March 30. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was gathered that asked about how he helped to rig elections, he said: “I don’t have to go and change election (results) but when you provide money, you give money to INEC boys that if they see any chance they should favour you, you provide money to the security (personnel); </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I tell you it’s not necessarily when I am contesting election but when my party sponsors a candidate, I will like that candidate to win election.” The former deputy Senate president who pronounced himself as a born-again politician in 2017, disclosed that he helped to rig elections by providing financial inducements to officials involved in the conduct of the polls.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He admitted to having bribed electoral and security officials, even agents of other political parties in order not to raise any objection to the outcomes of the elections. Ahead of the forthcoming general polls, Senator Mantu, however, believes Nigeria can get a free and fair election if people are born again like him and refuse to engage in electoral malpractice. </div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He further urged Nigerians to ensure they voted wisely in 2019 and support leaders who would make the welfare of the people a top priority of their administration. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“I am tired of living in poverty in the midst of plenty and I believe that we have the resources that people can live a decent life without being beggars to those who have. “So we need good governance and good governance can only be provided by good people; good people who are truly repentant, who are concerned about the well-being of the people", Mantu lamented. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
had previously reported that the federal government on Friday, March 30, and through Lai Mohammed, released a list of some of those who have been accused of looting the nation’s treasury under the administration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Nigerians have taken to social media to mock President Muhammadu Buhari over the controversial Martin Luther King award he received some days back.<a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Recall that some members of the African American civil rights leaders had on Tuesday has given an award to Buhari in Abuja.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This was followed by a purported speech from the family, urging Nigerians to re-elect Buhari</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
According to the presidency at the time, “President @MBuhari today at the State House received Martin Luther King Jnr’s family. He was also conferred with the 1st Black History Month National Black Excellence and Exceptional African Leadership Award 2018. #AsoVillaToday”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The children of Martin Luther King and the King Center have, however, denied issuing the award to Buhari.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In a tweet on Wednesday, The King Center said: “The award given to President Buhari of Nigeria was not given by The King Center, at the request of The King Center or by the children of #MLK and #CorettaScottKing. @MrFixNigeria.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
